Spring Cleaning and Home Maintenance Tips

Use these tips as you tackle your spring cleaning and maintenance chores this year to make your home sparkle and shine.

1. Cleaning the Walls

When cleaning painted surfaces like walls and furniture, first wipe them down with plain water. If the stains persist, add a little dishwashing liquid to the water. For stains that are stubborn, rub some soap directly on the wall.  Don’t forget to rinse afterward with clean water.

2. Stainless steel

Stainless steel appliances are all the rage right now, but they do have a tendency to show smudges and fingerprints. To keep your stainless steel appliances looking like new, clean them once or twice a week with an aerosol wax-based spray cleaner. Only use a thin layer to keep them from getting greasy.

3. Cleaning carpets

In areas of heavy traffic, you should probably clean your carpets once or twice a year or whenever you notice the dirt. In other parts of the home, you may be able to only clean them every other year. Try taking off shoes in the house to keep them looking nicer longer. However, socks are still a must, because body oils can make the carpets attract dirt.

4. Don’t forget the filters

Keeping the filters clean in all of your appliances can improve their performance and efficiency and prolong their lives. Don’t forget your furnace filter, vacuum cleaner filter, dishwasher filter, and air purifier filter.
